Voxel art is a popular 3D art style that has a very pixellated or blocky look to it. Minecraft is a great example of this art style. The scene and all objects within it are created from cubes. There are no angles, rounded edges, or smoothing applied.
Create a Voxel Object
Creating a voxel object in Blender is actually quite simple. Start with the model that you want to convert. Select it and open the Modifier Properties panel . Click the “Add Modifier” dropdown and select “Remesh”. There are many uses for the remesh modifier, which will be covered in other tutorials. You might think clicking the “Voxel” option would be the one to use, but to get the blocky look select the “Blocks” option. You should immediately see your object become very blocky. Increase the “Octree Depth” slider to add more resolution (blocks) to your object. Be careful with this slider – increasing it too fast may significantly slow down or crash Blender. It is better to use the left and right arrows to increase or decrease the Octree Depth one level at a time.
